La Quinta, California — Sahith Theegala turned in a strong showing at The American Express 2026, finishing tied for 8th at 21-under par against a stacked PGA TOUR field.
Round 1: 1-under 71
Theegala kicked off his week with a 71 (-1) on Thursday at the Stadium Course. He got off to a great start by sinking a 4-foot birdie putt on the par 4 1st hole, setting an early tone of confidence with strong iron play and short game precision.
That front-nine birdie kept momentum going, even as scoring conditions proved difficult early amongst a deep leaderboard.
Round 2: 8-under 64
Friday was Theegala’s most electric scoring day. He carded a bogey free 64 (-8) that vaulted him up the leaderboard. Two eagles on the day came on holes 11 and 13 (his second and fourth hole, having started on the back 9).
These were key to his momentum, and allowed him to capitalize on receptive pin positions on the Tournament Course. The round established Sahith as a player to watch heading into the weekend.
Round 3: 5-under 67
On Saturday, Theegala stayed in the mix with a 67 (-5). A pivotal moment came around the turn, where smart placement off the tee and aggressive-yet-calculated iron shots helped him convert multiple birdie chances — a test of precision that kept him within striking range of the leaders.
Another eagle on hole 11 gave him strong momentum through the back 9, and closed out with birdies on 14 and 16 to card a 67.
Round 4: 7-under 65
Sahith closed out the week with another bogey-free round of 65 (-7), one of the lowest rounds of the tournament - showcasing his ability to turn strong play into elite scoring. Three birdies on the front and four on the back highlighted his Sunday scoring, along with a series of clutch up-and-downs and aggressive shotmaking. The performance pushed his total to -21 for the week.
Overall, Sahith showed resilience against a stacked field for The American Express, and moving between two different courses for the week is never easy. Changing landscapes and gameplay while staying focused on making birdies is what set him up for success and drove a strong charge down the stretch.
We’re excited to see where he takes this momentum moving through the 2026 season!
