Competition & Broadcast Enhancements

In addition to unveiling TGL’s renovated, larger green complex and an expanded catalog of virtual holes – both designed to amplify teams’ risk-reward decisions and test their shot-making skillsnew elements of Season 2’s broadcasts will elevate the storytelling and help demystify the competitive drama inherent to TGL’s match-play format:

  • Virtual Eye Shot Comparison, AR Graphics and Shot Tracing: Seeing where each team is positioned on a hole is key to understanding who has the advantage in match play, and the new shot comparison graphics use Virtual Eye technology to deliver that visual context in the fairway and around the green. Data-rich, augmented-reality graphics overlaid on the green will also illustrate shot quality at pivotal moments by comparing to team averages and the best approach ever on that hole. And live shot tracing will track balls in flight before they hit the massive screen, the largest simulator in all of golf.

  • New Cameras & Virtual Angles: SoFi Center is equipped with 79 cameras to capture every angle of a TGL match, including the return of the award-winning SmartPin Cam, which provides live, 360-degree views from the perspective of the pin flag. Slow-motion, 8K cameras capable of zooming and reframing for pinpoint replays will enable detailed swing analysis. And new virtual camera angles, such as a reverse shot from a fairway back to the tee or hovering perspective above the green, will transport audiences to unique vantage points possible only within TGL’s virtual holes.

  • TGL Analyst Roberto Castro: Former PGA TOUR professional Roberto Castro will be joining the broadcast as TGL’s analyst, alongside ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt, Matt Barrie and Marty Smith. Closely involved in TGL’s initial development, Castro will explain competitive elements like teams approaches to hole designs or their strategic use of the Hammer, a fan-favorite twist to TGL’s scoring. Castro is uniquely qualified for this role, having helped craft the format, rules, and test the technology throughout TGL’s development.
