Motor City Golf Club was announced in May 2025 as TGL’s first expansion team and will begin competition as one of seven teams for the 2027 season, joining Atlanta Drive GC, Boston Common Golf, Jupiter Links GC, Los Angeles Golf Club, New York Golf Club and The Bay Golf Club.
Atlanta Drive won the first-ever SoFi Cup in the inaugural TGL presented by SoFi season, followed by Los Angeles Golf Club in the 2026 season that wrapped up back in March.
Koepka will find out when he'll get his first taste of TGL action when the 2027 schedule is released later this year. But he's been to SoFi Center before, attending a TGL match back in February 2025 between Jupiter Links GC and The Bay Golf Club.
“I’ve had the chance to attend TGL matches, and they bring something completely new to the game. The energy, pace and team atmosphere at SoFi Center really stood out, and it’s something I wanted to be part of,” Koepka said.
“I’ve also enjoyed getting to know the Motor City Golf Club ownership group and have been impressed by its commitment to building a winning team. I’m excited to compete alongside my teammates and bring a championship to Detroit.”
Motor City's ownership group is led by Middle West Partners principals Michael Hamp, Peter Hamp and Kevin Kelleher, all of whom have Detroit roots. The same ownership group also owns Motor City Golf Club in WTGL, the new women’s team golf platform.

“Brooks has built his career around performing at his best when the stakes are highest,” said Michael Hamp, team governor of Motor City Golf Club. “His competitive edge, toughness and championship pedigree fit the identity we are building for Motor City Golf Club and the city we represent. We could not ask for a stronger foundation as we begin assembling our inaugural roster.”
Koepka, 36, is a nine-time PGA TOUR winner and former world No. 1. His five major championships include consecutive U.S. Open victories in 2017 and 2018 and three PGA Championship titles in 2018, 2019 and 2023.
His 2018 U.S. Open victory made him the first player in 29 years to successfully defend the championship. In 2019, Koepka became the first player in golf history to simultaneously hold back-to-back titles at two different majors. With his third PGA Championship victory in 2023, he joined Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only players to win the event three times in the stroke-play era.
