Alpine
Alpine
Par 4 | 535 Yards
Set among mountain peaks, Alpine is a visually stunning par 4 that runs along a gorge and favors a right-to-left shot shape. Those who can hit that shot off the tee and reach a prominent speed slot on the fairway will be rewarded with an extra 30-50 yards of roll.
But those who miss the speed slot will face an approach of over 220 yards to a green that emerges on the left from a peninsula cut out of the gorge that runs the entire length of the hole.
Hole Strategy
Hole Designer: Nicklaus Design
Nicklaus Design senior design associate Chad Goetz talks through his design process on Alpine and discusses how the teams may approach it:
Chad says: "Alpine is a par 4 doglegging to the left, set in a mountainous area with a gorge running down the left side of the hole.
"This was actually one of the earliest holes we designed in the process for the inaugural season of TGL presented by SoFi.
"We really tried to test the topographical limits on this hole, which plays dramatically uphill off the tee. The player that can hit a really hard draw carrying around 300 yards is going to find the severe speed slot that will take their ball down the fairway, making their approach shot very reasonable and setting up a birdie chance.
"If you miss the speed slot to the right, your ball is going to hang up on top of the hill and you are going to have a much longer shot, well over 225 yards, down the hill and into the green that is perched on the side of the gorge."
