Caverns

Caverns challenges players to navigate a winding par 5 through an underground chamber, where towering stone surrounds the hole and hanging formations define every line. The tee shot must avoid two stalactites to find the fairway and unlock any chance of reaching the green in two.

A bold second shot brings another obstacle into play, with a stalactite guarding the left as players aim toward a green dramatically lit by an opening in the cave above. Laying up offers two options: A shorter, narrower path on the left or a wider route on the right that requires careful shot shaping around yet another overhead hazard.

Precision through the shadows gives way to light at the finish, making Caverns one of the most visually striking and strategically demanding holes in TGL presented by SoFi.

Beau Welling Design was the hole design group behind this dramatic hole. Beau talks through his thought process on the design:

Beau says: "This hole is going to be fascinating, we have set a par 5 in a cave. We have water and we have stalagmites. Players will not have to worry about hitting the top of the cave as it’s very tall.

"Teams will have a lot of options off the tee and in particular, a lot of options on the second shot. If they hit a great tee shot, they can potentially carry over the stalagmites and water to the green.

"If they don’t feel like they can reach the green, they’ll have a left option to play but it’s narrow. Or they can play to a much wider lay-up zone to the right, but the visibility is blocked there by stalagmites in this area."
