Lavender Lane
Lavender Lane
Par 4 | 452 yds
Winding through vibrant stretches of wild lavender, this double‑dogleg par 4 blends beauty with strategic bite. The opening bend invites a confident tee shot, but players must judge their distance carefully as a lone bunker waits at the far end of the fairway.
The bold may look to cut the corner and carry the bunkers on the left, setting up a shorter approach into the elevated green—but misjudge the line, and the bunkers and lavender quickly make their presence felt.
Lavender Lane is a visually striking showcase of classic Gil Hanse strategy set within a timeless heathland landscape.
Hole Strategy
Hole designer: Gil Hanse
Gil Hanse talks through the design of Lavender Lane and discusses how the teams may approach it:
Gil says: "One of our favorite places to play golf is the golf courses around London. We borrowed from those courses, from the standpoint of original designs by Tom Simpson, the great English architect, and set them in a heathland setting so we have plenty of purple flowers around.
"We are asking a different question with the tee shot, as players will need to hit a good draw or have a really long carry to reach the fairway.
"Harry Colt, one of the great architects of the heathland era, set up bunkers in diagonals to ask you to bite off as much as you can chew. If players bite off the entirety of the left side of the hole, they will have a great angle into the green. For players that miss the fairway or end up in one of those bunkers, there is actually another diagonal line of bunkers that will challenge the second shot.
"Everything about this hole is about angles and asking players to shape their shots."
