Pin Oak

Pin Oak

Par 5 | 636 yards

Even though it may not look like it initially, Pin Oak is all about accuracy.

There is plenty of open sky off the tee but those going for the green in two will need to thread the needle between two bunker complexes in the first landing area. From this position, distance control and line of approach are key, as players must contend with native areas short of the green, and water to the left, right and behind the green.

If going for the green in three, the best angle of approach is achieved by flirting with the bunkers up the fairway along the right side.

Hole Strategy

Hole Designer: Beau Welling Design

Beau Welling talks through the design of Pin Oak and how teams may strategize to play their best on this hole:

Beau says: "The green is set out on a peninsula jutting out into a lake. And in front of the green we have a natural area. These two factors are going to dictate strategy on the hole.

"The players that find the fairway will have a big decision of going for the green in two or playing it safe. Do you play over the natural areas to reach the green in two? It’s going to require real execution and real decision making.

"It’s going to be a hole that tempts players to take on more risk than they might otherwise normally choose to take on."
