Pinery

The name of the game on Pinery is precision. A carefully-placed tee shot will expose the ideal options for the second shot on this lengthy par 5. The best angle of approach is unlocked by playing an aggressive shot over the water to the island fairway preceding the green.

There is a less aggressive route available that reduces the risk of penalty, but the tradeoff comes with progressively worse angles of approach to the green. A delicate approach will be required on Pinery, otherwise only a heroic recovery will bail out teams.

Beau talks us through his thought process on the design of the Par 5 Pinery and discusses how our teams may approach it:

Beau says: "The hole is set amid a pine forest with a lot of exposed sand and sandscape that really defines the hole.

"The fairway weaves its way dramatically downhill through this pine forest and the sandy waste areas.

"The tee shot is relatively narrow, so we are asking players to be precise off the tee because there's sand right and sand left.

"The approach is angled left to right and it narrows as it heads toward the green. Precision is required for those who want to be aggressive. Those wanting to play more conservatively, the fairway is much wider further from the golf hole.

"Visually, it is a very dramatic golf hole. Players will have to calculate risk and decide what is worth taking on."
