Straight Up

Straight Up

Par 4 | 464 yds

Shaped like a cocktail shaker, players may need a little liquid courage to take the aggressive line off this tee.

With water running along the entire left side of this dogleg left, if you play too conservatively off the tee you run the risk of running through the fairway and leaving yourself with a long approach from the sand.

The safest play from the tee is carving it off the first fairway bunker, leaving yourself a short to mid iron in.

Hole Strategy

Hole Designer: Nicklaus Design

Nicklaus Design senior design associate Chad Goetz walks through the different ways that Straight Up can be played.

Chad says: "This hole can play two different ways, the right tee plays as a fairly straight hole around 415 yards and the tees can be shifted to the left to play completely differently closer to 460 yards.

"We've set the hole in South Florida, among the dunes near the ocean. As you play the right tees, players have a decision to make. They can lay up short of all the bunkers and face a very long shot into the green. They can play it out to the left along the lake and get a little bit better angle and a little bit closer. They can play it way down the right side and have a closer shot. But on this hole we've rotated the green in such a way where the mound around the GreenZone will come into play from the shot from the far right.

"Finally, they can be very aggressive and blast it over everything down just in front of the green and have a very short partial wedge into the green.

"The hole plays similar in concept from the left, but from a much sharper angle and much longer distance. The closer they can get it to the lake, the better angle they are going to have to approach this green."
