Cohen Private Ventures has secured rights for a TGL team representing New York, adding to Steven A. Cohen's ownership of the New York Mets.

From Shinnecock Hills to Winged Foot to Bethpage. Golf in New York needs no introduction. It's world class.

And to those legendary venues and rich golfing history, New York can now add a TGL team, the fourth to be announced ahead of the launch of the league in January. New York Mets owner Steven Cohen has purchased the New York club through his Cohen Private Ventures firm.

New York joins Los Angeles, Boston and Atlanta as one of six teams set to compete in the first season of TGL. The final two clubs will be announced in the coming weeks.

”We’re excited to partner with TMRW Sports [parent company of TGL] and represent New York as a founding TGL team,” Cohen said. “As golf continues to grow in popularity, there’s a demand for enhanced access to the sport and the world’s top players.

”TGL’s primetime schedule will offer an up-close, fast-paced, and innovative take on the sport that will appeal to traditional golf and new fans alike. We’re excited to be a part of TGL and build a team that makes New York proud.”

TGL Team Ownership Groups So Far

  • Los Angeles: Led by Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams and Venus Williams, as well as limited partners, the Antetokounmpo brothers
  • Boston: Fenway Sports Group
  • Atlanta: Arthur Blank
  • New York: Steven Cohen

The four TGL team ownership groups now boast a sports portfolio that includes a wide range of teams from across the NFL, MLB, NHL, Premier League, NASCAR, MLS and NWSL.

Cohen, who bought the Mets in 2020, is an avid philanthropist and entrepreneur, and the Chairman and CEO of Point72, a global multi-strategy asset management company. He also serves as Chairman and CEO of the Mets.

Each TGL team will be made up of three PGA TOUR golfers, with rosters to be announced in the fall. Currently, 11 PGA TOUR stars have committed to play in TGL: Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Rickie Fowler, Max Homa, Billy Horschel, Xander Schauffele and Matt Fitzpatrick.

“The addition of New York as a TGL team not only continues the success of adding major markets to TGL but also adds an ownership group with strong ties to other major league teams and fanbases. Steve Cohen’s ability and willingness to operate, promote, and market this team to New York fans is a significant step as we build towards the launch of TGL in January,” TGL CEO Mike McCarley said.

“Steve’s passion for winning is undeniable and infectious, as he is a welcomed addition to our original six TGL owners. A Cohen-led TGL team representing New York, alongside strong ownership groups in Atlanta, Boston, and Los Angeles, will further elevate the profile of TGL on the global stage.”

The first TGL season kicks off in early 2025 with a 15-match regular season, followed by semifinals and finals matches. The matches will take place in a purpose-built venue at Palm Beach State College in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
