New York Clinches Finals Spot
Los Angeles earned the No. 1 overall seed in the SoFi Cup Standings with a 5-3 comeback win over The Bay in a battle for the top spot entering the playoffs. But they couldn't get it done against New York, falling behind in Triples and failing to recover in a tight Singles battle.
New York entered SoFi Center with tons of momentum after winning two of three matches to close the regular season and Xander Schauffele, Rickie Fowler and Cameron Young kept it rolling in an impressive performance.
The second spot in the Finals Series is up for grabs Tuesday night in the other Semifinal, where Min Woo Lee, Ludvig Ã…berg, and Shane Lowry have something to prove with The Bay.
TBGC entered the final week of the regular season on top of the standings at 4-0, only to lose out on the No. 1 seed after blowing a 3-0 lead in a loss to LAGC. They still finished the regular season tops in most statistical categories, including driving distance, driving accuracy, greens in regulation, proximity to the hole, strokes gained ball striking, Triples holes won and Triples points won.
Atlanta is coming off its most impressive showing of the season, beating Jupiter Links Golf Club 9-1 despite entering the match with a playoff spot already secured. Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, and Billy Horschel will be ready to roll come Tuesday.
Atlanta went 4-1 on the regular season and suffered its only loss in a 6-5 nailbiter against The Bay. Now they have a chance to settle the score with a postseason win to get to the Finals Series, a best-of-three showdown to see who hoists the SoFi Cup in the inaugural season of TGL.
