New York Golf Club came oh-so-close to a championship following a dramatic second-half turnaround in Season 1 of TGL presented by SoFi.
Now, NYGC has a chance to turn the tables immediately entering 2026, with a rematch of last year’s Finals Series to kick things off in the debut match for Season 2.
New York faces defending-champion Atlanta Drive GC at 3 p.m. ET Sunday, Dec. 28 at SoFi Center, where Atlanta emerged victorious by sweeping the best-of-three Finals against New York last March to take the title. The match will air live on ABC.
TAKE THE QUIZ: Find Out Which Team You Should Root For
It’s a great opportunity for NYGC to build early momentum and keep things rolling in the right direction after a strong first impression in 2025.
NEW YORK GOLF CLUB SCHEDULE
Beating the reigning champs in the first match would make for a statement win and put the rest of the league on notice that New York isn’t going anywhere in 2026.
This is the second consecutive season in which New York has played in the opening match, and NYGC will be hoping for a better result than the 9-2 loss to The Bay in the first ever TGL match last season.
After Atlanta, the following match sees New York take on a Jupiter Links Golf Club team that finished outside the playoff bubble in Season 1. That one gets underway at 7 p.m. ET January 13 at SoFi Center, where last season we saw the importance of getting off to a strong start with five regular season matches for each team.
NYGC is off for more than a month following the Jupiter showdown, returning to action in back-to-back matches as part of a Feb. 24 TGL Doubleheader at SoFi Center.
New York first takes on The Bay Golf Club at 5 p.m. ET, facing an opponent that earned the No. 2 seed in the 2025 playoffs. Then it’s right back to it with a 9 p.m. ET nightcap against Boston Common Golf in the second match. The Ballfrogs finished last in the SoFi Cup Standings a year ago, but those results don’t mean much entering Season 2.
New York wraps up the regular season at 7 p.m. ET Monday, March 2, taking on a Los Angeles Golf Club squad that went into the 2025 playoffs as the No. 1 overall seed before an upset loss in the Semifinals to NYGC.
The Season 2 playoffs begin with a pair of Semifinal matches on March 17, followed by the best-of-three Finals Series on March 24.
NEW YORK GOLF CLUB ROSTER
After a few ups and downs in the early-going, the foursome of Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele and Cameron Young came together to form a serious championship contender at the conclusion of Season 1.
During the regular season, the team led the league in long putts made (>30 ft) and ranked first as the fastest squad on the shot clock, averaging 18.6 seconds remaining per shot.
Schauffele looks stronger than ever entering Season 2 having now made the cut in 72 consecutive tournaments. He added his 10th career win at the Baycurrent Classic in October, and he finished inside the top 30 at all four majors last year – including a T-8 at the Masters and a T-7 at the British Open.
Hitting almost every fairway certainly helps the game, with Schauffele finishing Season 1 tied for third in TGL driving accuracy at 83.3%.
Fowler was a scoring machine for NYGC in Season 1 – he finished the regular season tied for second in total points scored (17) and Triples points won (17). He also came on strong at the end of his PGA TOUR season with a T-6 in Memphis and a T-7 at the BMW Championship the following week.
Young went viral at SoFi Center on more than one occasion with his prolific tee shots, finishing the regular season second in average driving distance at a whopping 331.6 yards. In addition, Young broke the TGL record for longest putt, sinking a 38-footer during the regular season match against LAGC.
Fitzpatrick went on a tear following the conclusion of Season 1, making 11 consecutive cuts on the PGA TOUR and finishing fourth at the British Open amid a run of four straight top-10 finishes. There’s no doubt he’ll be looking to step up his game at SoFi Center and help see NYGC on another postseason run.
SEASON 1 RECAP
Things weren’t looking good after New York started Season 1 with a 1-3 record. They got waxed in a 9-2 loss to The Bay on opening night and were shut out the following match in a 4-0 loss to Atlanta.
NYGC then provided a glimpse of its potential with a blowout win of its own, topping Jupiter in a 10-3 triumph to get things moving in the right direction. That one could have been even uglier, with NYGC racing out to an 8-0 lead through eight holes.
That was followed by a 5-4 loss to Los Angeles, after which New York figured it had to win its last match in order to make the postseason. NYGC took care of business with a 10-6 win over Boston to secure the No. 4 seed and made the best of it with a 6-4 Semifinal upset win over No. 1-seeded Los Angeles to make the Finals.
NYGC overcame an early 2-0 deficit and led 5-4 through 13 holes in Match 1, with Atlanta winning points at No. 14 and No. 15 to earn a dramatic 6-5 win.
NYGC looked poised to even things up after taking a 3-0 lead through 11 holes in Match 2, before Atlanta ripped off four points in a three-hole Singles stretch to get the sweep and the SoFi Cup in a 4-3 victory.
That was the story of the season for NYGC – three of its four losses came by just one point, with just one or two shots making all the difference. New York definitely snuck up on a few teams down the stretch after a slow start, but they’ll have a big target on their backs entering Season 2 after an epic run to conclude 2025.
