The rosters for TGL presented by SoFi are officially set, and stats expert Justin Ray takes a closer look at the strengths that each five-player team will be bringing to SoFi Center.

The 2027 season of TGL features the expansion Motor City Golf Club, as well as a bevvy of new players who will compete inside SoFi Center.

A five-time major winner, the reigning Champion Golfer of the Year and several of the sport’s brightest young prospects are among the additions for the coming campaign.

Let's take a closer look at each roster...

SoFi Cup Champions in the inaugural season of TGL, Atlanta Drive GC bowed out in the Semifinals last season against eventual champs Los Angeles Golf Club. Two statistical trends best explain the difference in the two outcomes. For one, the overwhelming advantage Atlanta had in hammer point differential in season one (+13, best in TGL) was merely a strength in the 2026 season (+3, 2nd-best). The other was approach play: Atlanta went from the league leaders in strokes gained approach in 2025 (+20.7) to last in the league in ’26 (+5.5).

In an attempt to make a third consecutive postseason appearance, Atlanta will enlist two of the game’s most exciting young stars in 2027: Michael Brennan and Chris Gotterup. While Gotterup made five starts as an alternate last season, this will be Brennan’s first foray into TGL competition.

Both players bring elite power. They are the only two players on the PGA Tour this season with 400 or more drives of 320 yards. Brennan should be an excellent second-shot weapon on par five holes in Triples: his average proximity of 42’7” on approach shots of 200 yards or more is best on Tour this season, and nearly eight feet better than the Tour average.

The Bay Golf Club went from landing the two-seed in TGL’s inaugural season to missing the playoffs altogether in 2026. Ball striking was the key reason: the league leaders in both fairways hit and green in regulation percentage in 2025 ranked last in both stats as a squad in the 2026 season.

As one Champion Golfer of the Year departs (Shane Lowry), the man currently holding that title enters the arena for The Bay in 2027. In July, Ryan Fox orchestrated the largest 36-hole comeback in men’s major championship history, coming from T-52nd after two rounds at Royal Birkdale to earn the Claret Jug. In 2026, Fox ranks in the top-25 on Tour in average driving distance (314.8 yards) and rate of drives hit 320 yards or longer (39.6%).

Along with Fox, The Bay also adds youthful promise with Blades Brown joining the club. Just weeks ago, Brown became the youngest player in Korn Ferry Tour history to earn his PGA Tour card through that circuit (19 years, 4 months, 20 days old).

Perhaps no team improved more from the first season to the 2026 season of TGL than Boston Common Golf. The lone winless club in the inaugural campaign earned the top seed in the 2026 playoffs, leading all teams during the regular season in Triples win percentage (42.2%), fairways hit (74.0%) and greens in regulation (70.7%). But the most staggering number for Boston came on the green: as a team, Boston holed 16 putts of ten feet or longer, twice as many as any other club in the 2026 season.

The man who made more of those putts than anyone was Michael Thorbjornsen, with six. Michael returns as a full-time member of Boston Common Golf in 2027, along with Shane Lowry, who moves over from The Bay GC in a trade.

Over the first two TGL seasons, no team has been more aggressive on par fives than Boston. The Ballfrogs have hit the green in two shots on par fives at a rate of 37.0%, by far the most of any club. Will this trend continue with the team’s additions? Lowry (82nd) and Thorbjornsen (115th) are middle-of-the-pack on Tour when it comes to going for it this season.

Despite not making the playoffs, Jupiter Links Golf Club was arguably the most entertaining team in TGL’s inaugural season (bladed wedges, yardage mishaps, etc.). They could also lay claim to that title in the 2026 season, but for much more positive reasons.

They surged into the final playoff spot, fueled by a league-best 17 Hammer points won in the regular season. No team improved more in terms of Triples points won (+17 differential from 2025) or Singles points won (+11). The club also went from last in strokes gained approach in the first season to the league’s best in the 2026 season.

New addition Keith Mitchell will undoubtedly help with the team’s biggest weakness. Jupiter Links GC ranked last in each season of TGL in average driving distance. Mitchell has ranked in the top-25 in both strokes gained off the tee and average driving distance each of the last six PGA Tour seasons.

The defending champions will be tough to dethrone. Consider this: Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood have both been in Los Angeles Golf Club’s lineup in seven matches across two seasons. LA’s record in those matches is 6-1-0, the lone loss coming in overtime to Atlanta in 2025. Those lineups have won nearly 38% of their overall holes played, and 41.3% of them in Triples.

Last season, LAGC led all ScreenZone strokes gained categories as a team: off the tee, approach and ball striking. Oh, and they holed 65.5% of their putts from five to ten feet, best of any club.

Now, an already loaded roster adds phenom Ben James, who at Virginia became the first player in 25 years to earn first-team All-American honors four times.

Motor City Golf Club, the first expansion team in TGL history boasts major championship pedigree and enormous on-course promise. Brooks Koepka is one of just six men to reach five career major wins in the last 40 years. From the 2016 season through his win at the 2023 PGA Championship, Koepka was 79-under-par in the majors, 34 shots better than any other player in that span.

He’s joined by Jackson Koivun, one of this generation’s most exciting prospects. At Auburn, he broke Collin Morikawa’s NCAA single-season scoring average record. He rewrote the Southeastern Conference record books, becoming the first player in SEC history to earn Player of the Year honors three times. And when he won the 3M Open over the summer, he became the youngest American player to win a PGA Tour title by three strokes or more since 1932 (Ralph Guldahl).

Don’t underestimate the rest of this roster, though – especially Si Woo Kim. Kim ranks second on Tour this season in top-ten finishes, birdies and strokes gained tee-to-green. Kim also ranks in the top-three this year in average proximity from 125-150, 150-175 and 175-200 yards.

Simply put, the putts did not fall in the 2026 season for New York Golf Club. After leading all teams in putts made of ten feet or longer in 2025, NYGC ranked last in that statistic in 2026. In turn, the team dipped from second in Triples holes won to last, and a club that made a run to the Finals missed the playoffs altogether in its encore.

Enter two new names, Alex Fitzpatrick and Ben Griffin. After teaming up with his brother to win the Zurich Classic in April, Alex spent the rest of the summer playing high-quality golf. Alex wound up getting all the way to the TOUR Championship, where he finished in a tie for fourth place. He’s in the top-20 on Tour this year in scoring average, strokes gained tee-to-green and strokes gained approach.

Griffin, a three-time PGA Tour winner, is likely to improve NYGC’s putting numbers from last season. Griffin ranked in the top-20 on Tour in strokes gained putting in 2025, and this season is in the top-ten in putt-make rate from four to eight feet.

With more players, a brand new team, and more fast-paced team golf, the 2027 season of TGL should be the most intriguing to date. Sign up to be among the first to see the schedule for the coming TGL season.
