JUPITER IN MUST-WIN MATCH
Atlanta isn’t slowing down after a Finals run in Season 1. The fellas are cruising toward another postseason appearance, off to a 2-0-0 start in Season 2 with a six-match winning streak dating back to last year.
Jupiter Links Golf Club, meanwhile, is winless through two matches after missing the postseason a year ago. That makes Monday’s match effectively a must-win for the local squad if they hope to finish inside the top four in the SoFi Cup Standings.
Jupiter is still very much alive in the playoff race - New York Golf Club overcame an 0-2-0 start a year ago to reach the Finals. But they need to get it going before it’s too late, and it will take their best performance of the year to come out on top over Atlanta.
Tiger Woods will be there again with his Jupiter teammates in a non-playing role, and the group’s potential has been apparent through two matches – Jupiter took a 3-1 lead over New York through four holes in the opener then suffered from a variety of factors, including Hammer strategy and a shot clock violation.
They also fought back from a 5-1 deficit through 11 holes against Los Angeles, getting within one point through 13 holes ahead of an eventual 8-4 loss.
As well as Atlanta has played lately, they haven’t looked unbeatable. The opener against New York could have gone either way, with Billy Horschel making an eagle worth two points at No. 15 to break a tie and score a 6-4 victory on the final hole. They were also tied with The Bay, 3-3, through 10 holes before pulling away in Singles for a 7-4 win.
Anything can happen when the lights come on and the shot clock starts winding down at SoFi Center. Jupiter is capable of playing great golf and has an opportunity to make a big-time statement with a few strategy tweaks and a strong showing Monday.
