The top two teams in the SoFi Cup Standings are set to go head-to-head Monday in the first match of a doubleheader, getting the party started for a stretch of four matches in two days with back-to-back doubleheaders on tap at SoFi Center.

Atlanta Drive GC is currently in first place via tiebreakers, while Boston Common Golf is unbeaten so far. Both teams have won exactly 15 holes on the year, which serves as the first tiebreaker to establish position in the Standings (the second tiebreaker is Singles Holes Won, which Atlanta leads over Boston 8 to 7).

Atlanta won it all last season and Boston finished last, so there's a lot on the line when the defending champs meet the rising Ballfrogs at 5 p.m. ET.

Then Tuesday night, currently unbeaten Boston Common Golf will take on New York in their second match of the night, beginning at 9 p.m. ET.

There will be a host of implications here depending on how the first three matches of the week shake out, but one thing is clear - this will be a season-defining week for Atlanta, New York and Boston, all of whom play two matches in a two-day stretch that could sink their chances or propel them towards the top of the SoFi Cup Standings.

JUST-IN TIME

Justin Thomas was in the building to see Atlanta’s seven-match winning streak come to an end in an 8-6 loss to Jupiter earlier this month. Now he’s in the lineup for the first time this season, back from injury and ready to help the reigning champs return to their winning ways in a must-see matchup with Boston.

Thomas finished T-4 in Singles points won last season as a major factor in Atlanta’s championship run. He returns to SoFi Center ready to tee it up at the perfect time, with the winner of Monday’s matchup taking first place in the SoFi Cup Standings.

SINGLES MATCHUPS

Chris Gotterup vs. Rory McIlroy: Gotterup, fresh off a win in Phoenix, goes toe-to-toe with McIlroy, whom he out-dueled in the final round to win the 2025 Scottish Open. The two big hitters get started at Bonnie Link, a meaty par 5 that should fit both of their skillsets. Then it’s on to the par 4 Alpine, a launching pad for long drives that should make for an entertaining arms race.

Justin Thomas vs. Keegan Bradley: The second pairing begins at Cut the Sails, a new par 4 that brings eagle into play with a massive downward sloping fairway. They also get to take on The Last Toll, a tricky par 3 where the American vets will have to shape something through or around the broken-down bridge gate.

Patrick Cantlay vs. Michael Thorbjornsen: Birdie might only be good enough to earn a tie at Set In Stone, where both players will be dialed in on the 157-yard par 3. They’ll need to dig deeper in the bag at No. 15, the par 5 Stone & Steeple, where anything left of the fairway is in serious trouble. This should be a big battle among two of the best in the league.

PLAYING ORDER REVEAL

BACK FOR BOSTON

The Ballfrogs will see two familiar faces in the lineup for the first time this season, with Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama set for their Season 2 debuts. There is some added pressure with Boston off to a 2-0-0 start and poised to take over first place with a strong showing this week, though Scott and Matsuyama have seen it all with nearly 40 years combined professional experience.

SINGLES MATCHUPS

Adam Scott vs. Cameron Young: Scott isn’t exactly easing his way back into Singles, matched up against Young at the par 5 The Spear. But he’s still right there with Young in terms of driving distance at age 45. That won’t be much of a factor on the next hole, Stinger, which is all about trajectory rather than length off the tee.

Hideki Matsuyama vs. Xander Schauffele: Matsuyama will be looking for his first career TGL Singles point at Straight Up, a par 4 where accuracy is a must into a water-lined green. Then it’s on to the par 3 Cliffhanger, playing 151 yards. These two last faced off at the 2024 Presidents Cup, with Matsuyama scoring a historic 7&6 victory over Schauffele in foursomes.

Keegan Bradley vs. Rickie Fowler: The anchor pairing kicks off with a one-shotter at Set In Stone, playing 169 yards, Fowler may be the slightly better irons player, but Bradley is a wizard around the greens. The match concludes at Caverns, a brand new par 5 set entirely in a cave with all sorts of wicked obstacles and options to test the U.S. veterans.

THE COURSE

Each match features debut holes. The par 4 Lavender Lane appears first as the sixth hole of Atlanta-Boston, and Caverns gets its second TGL play-through in the Boston-New York Tuesday night showdown.

HOLE SPOTLIGHTS

Lavender Lane, Par 4, 452 Yards

A Gil Hanse design, Lavender Lane is a scenic, winding hole set amid a serene British background. However, the execution required here is anything but relaxing.

This is a double-dogleg utilizing the classic Hanse risk-reward propositions. Players can draw something into the fairway or try to bomb it over the left-side bunkers, leaving a straightforward approach and great birdie chance. But a slightly errant tee shot will make it challenging to come away with a par.

Caverns, Par 5, 573 Yards

This brand-new Beau Welling design looks like a signature miniature golf hole at scale. For starters, it’s set entirely in a cave. There are overhanging obstacles to avoid off the tee and three options on approach - a safer layup option to the right, a riskier layup to the left, or an all-or-nothing swing for the green.

It’s a surreal environment only possible in SoFi Center with several different ways to take on the challenge. We could also see the match on the line at Caverns, playing as the final hole for Boston vs. New York.
