Kyle Porter previews Jupiter Links Golf Club against Boston Common Golf, as the two teams face off in one of the most anticipated matches of the season.
And now it's time for Week 4. The first three matches have been engaging, entertaining and a great intro to a completely different way of playing professional golf. This week, though? This week was the one circled on the calendar from the day the schedule was announced.
Tiger Woods and Jupiter Links Golf Club will take on Rory McIlroy and Boston Common Golf in one of the must-see matchups of the season on Monday at 6:30 ET on ESPN.
Obviously, many will be focused on the Tiger-Rory dynamic, but there are lots of interesting storylines in play this week. Let’s take a look at a few of those as we break down the matchup.

Jupiter looking for a spark
After this match, JLGC’s regular season will be 40% complete. They need to find something against an absolutely loaded Ballfrogs team or else find themselves at the bottom of the SoFi Cup Standings alongside New York Golf Club.
It wasn’t just that Jupiter lost to Los Angeles Golf Club in Week 2, it was the way they lost in a lopsided 12-1 defeat.
JLGC has swapped out Max Homa for Tom Kim this week and will need to be better all the way around – but specifically from tee to green, where they hit just 27% of greens in regulation in Week 2. Especially against a team featuring three elite ball-strikers in Adam Scott, Keegan Bradley and McIlroy.
Boston set for debut
McIlroy should thrive in SoFi Center. Following a nice top 10 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic two weeks ago, his game should be in a proper place to debut against Tiger. And you know he’ll want to take it to his hero-turned-friend on national television.
I expect him to scare 190mph ball speed and turn this opportunity to show off his absurd skillset into motivation for the Ballfrogs to smoke Jupiter and Tiger's squad in SoFi Center.
First look at Ballfrogs roster
Boston Common Golf is the last of six teams to debut, and thus far we have a three-headed monster at the top of the SoFi Cup Standings.
- The Bay Golf Club: They eviscerated NYGC in Week 1. Led by Ludvig Åberg, it looks like this squad doesn’t have many (if any) holes.
- Los Angeles Golf Club: LAGC was very solid in a Week 2 win over Jupiter. They should be a force all season.
- Atlanta Drive GC: Lived up to its billing as a great ball-striking team in a Week 3 win over NYGC.
New York and Jupiter have struggled a bit out of the gate, and I’m extremely curious to see where the Ballfrogs will find themselves after this match. We get them in back-to-back weeks as next Tuesday they take on LAGC in a prime time matchup. I suspect they’ll join LAGC in that top tier with an outstanding performance, but as we’ve seen over and over again in golf, pretty much anything can happen.
Tom Kim’s role
Imagine being 22, having won twice on the PGA TOUR and now making your TGL debut against McIlroy with Woods as your teammate. That’s heady stuff, and it’s easy to forget that Kim is so much younger than everyone else. Only Åberg is even close, and he’s already 25.
It will be interesting to see how Kim interacts with his teammates and whether he’s feeling any extra nerves because of the stage. I think he’ll adapt well, but keep an eye on his performance this week.

Porter’s Picks
I came into the year with the Ballfrogs and TBGC as my two favorites, and I’m not going to waver from that. The Ballfrogs should thrive off the tee, and that has been important over the first three weeks in terms of getting the ball on the green and being able to score points.
I’ve been a little surprised at how some teams have struggled with some of the unique driving hole setups, which has led to either penalty strokes or being out of position on approach shots. That’s a difficult way to play in SoFi Center. Boston Common Golf has three of the better drivers in the world and I think should be able to win this match.
As for individual matchups, this is how I see them playing out on Monday.
Rory McIlroy vs. Tiger Woods: The big one. It almost doesn’t matter who wins because it will be so much fun to watch. One underrated aspect of TGL is that it gives us matchups like this that rarely happen organically. For the record, I’m taking Rory.
Adam Scott vs. Kevin Kisner: Kisner went 0-2 in Week 2 vs. Collin Morikawa, while Scott is making his first appearance at SoFi Center. I’ll take Scott.
Keegan Bradley vs. Tom Kim: Give me Bradley in a Ballfrogs sweep. He, like Theegala in Week 2 and Horschel in Week 3, will bring a high level of competitiveness. Plus, he’s entering off of three consecutive top 20 finishes, including two in Hawaii. I trust where his game is at right now.
