TV & STREAMING: How to Watch TGL in Your Country
It's the first match of the season for both teams on the heels of Sunday's Finals rematch between New York Golf Club and Atlanta Drive GC - Atlanta's Billy Horschel broke a 4-4 tie with an eagle at the 15th and final hole for the win.
This is a big one for both teams, which finished on the opposite sides of the SoFi Cup Standings in 2025 - Boston was sixth and missed the postseason while Los Angeles went 4-0-1 to earn the No. 1 seed before falling in the Semifinals.

PLAYING ORDER REVEAL
Here’s the order in which players will tee off for their teams:
TRIPLES
SINGLES
3 THINGS TO KNOW
Hammer it Home: Los Angeles got off to an early lead and sat on the Hammer the entire match when these teams met last year, killing Boston's chances to swing the momentum. Now the rules are different and both teams have three Hammers to throw at any time. We saw Atlanta use it to their advantage Sunday against New York, throwing the Hammer in a 1-1 match and winning the ninth to flip the momentum and take a 3-1 lead into Singles. Boston finished with a -7 Hammer points differential in 2025 while Los Angeles was +6. Finding more opportune times to put the Hammer in play should be a big focus for Boston in the opening matchup.
Long and Short of it: Boston played much better at times than their 2025 record would suggest. The Ballfrogs finished first in average driving distance (318.8 yards), third in greens in regulation (68%) and third in Singles holes won (9). Conversely, Los Angeles didn't crack the top three in driving distance or greens in regulation - they made their hay on and around the GreenZone, finishing second in scrambling percentage and second in short-putt make percentage. Both teams have now had plenty of experience at SoFi Center and a full offseason for any strategy tweaks, so we'll see if those trends hold true on Friday night.
Grand Entrance: Rory McIlroy returns to action with a new title entering Season 2 - Career Grand Slam winner. The 36-year-old picked off the final leg with his Masters victory in April, joining a rare club that includes Jupiter Links' Tiger Woods. Both Rory and teammate Keegan Bradley played in all five matches a year ago, experience that could start paying dividends for the Ballfrogs starting on Friday night.
SINGLES MATCHUPS
Rory McIlroy vs. Justin Rose: How's this for the leadoff Singles pairing? McIlroy and Rose will go head-to-head again after battling it out in a playoff last year at Augusta National, where McIlroy made birdie at the first hole of sudden-death to take the green jacket. The longtime Ryder Cup teammates begin at the par-5 The Spear, and McIlroy should have a much shorter second shot with his length off the tee. The par-4 13th, Bluebonnet, is more about precision and should suit Rose's game well.
Keegan Bradley vs. Collin Morikawa: Continuing the Ryder Cup theme, Bradley and Morikawa square off first at No. 11 - Loot on the Line. Bradley holed a 16-footer for birdie to earn a point the last time he saw this hole in Singles. They finish at On the Rocks, a mid-length par-3 playing as the 14th hole. Bradley finished T-2 in Singles points last season, but Morikawa went unbeaten in Singles during the regular season and can definitely hold his own.
Michael Thorbjornsen vs. Sahith Theegala: The anchor spot sees two young, bright talents collide, with Thorbjornsen making his TGL debut as an alternate for Boston. They'll begin at Cenote, a new par-3 playing as the 12th. Thorbjornsen is a ballstriking machine and will likely take aim at the massive backdrop, which funnels back into the green and allows players to take as much club as they want. No. 15, Quick Draw, is a risk-reward par 5 that Theegala has already played twice in Singles. He hit his approach shot inside seven feet for a conceded eagle the first time around, but lost a point on the following appearance when he found a greenside bunker with his second shot and failed to get up and down.
THE COURSE
Friday’s rotation marks the debut of two redesigned Team Holes, a new addition for Season 2 that honors each team with its own regionally-themed layout. Boston gets its first look at the 614-yard, par-5 fourth, Storrowed, previously known as Serpent. This winding hole now features signature Massachusetts foliage and the Boston skyline in the background. Los Angeles' Team Hole, Showtime, needs no introduction. The lengthy par-5 is playing as the ninth and sits tucked among the shoreline surrounded by palm trees and familiar SoCal sights.
Alpine is first up in Triples and serves as the perfect opportunity for McIlroy to show off with the big stick - the three longest drives from Season 1 all took place at this 535-yard par 4.

Fans should also be pleased to see Stinger back in the rotation at No. 6. This 416-yard par-4 named after Tiger Woods' favorite shot shape is new for Season 2 and gave players fits on Friday, with both Xander Schauffele and Billy Horschel hitting the overhanging rock with their tee shots. We might see players adjust and take less than driver off the tee, as this hole truly demands its namesake.
The match concludes at No. 15, Quick Draw, which is fast becoming known as a venue for triumph and heartbreak - evidenced again by Billy Horschel's 37-foot eagle make to clinch a win for Atlanta last week.
HOLE SPOTLIGHT
No. 10, The Spear, 577 yards
A few design tweaks for Season 2 could have a major impact on player strategy at one of the most unique holes in the TGL rotation. This used to be a very straightforward second shot for players who chose not to take on the skinny, pinched portion in the middle of the fairway off the tee.
Now, much of the back portion of the fairway has been removed, meaning players will need to be more strategic with club selection and placement if they aren't going for the green in two. McIlroy will almost certainly pull driver here for Boston in Singles regardless, but we'll see if the redesign encourages more players like Rose to go big off the tee since laying up now carries significant risk as well.
