Boomerang
Boomerang
Par 5 | 622 Yards
Named for its boomerang-shaped fairway, players will have to navigate difficult angles to find success on this tricky par 5.
Only the longest of hitters will be able to reach the green in two when played at its full yardage of 622 yards, so those who take the safer approach will need to contend with the bunker complex and marsh that shield the lay-up area.
Should that be negotiated successfully, the position of the front bunker near the green makes the third shot far from simple.
Hole Strategy
Hole Designer: Nicklaus Design
Nicklaus Design senior design associate Chad Goetz talks through his design process on Boomerang and discusses how the teams may approach it:
Chad says: "This par 5 is set in the pine barrens of New Jersey, similar to Pine Valley. The hole is very flexible in its distances but it can play well over 600 yards.
"Boomerang features two different teeing positions, the position to the right encourages a cut off the tee and players may be able to challenge the bunker down the right side of the hole and try to drive it down the very narrow and shallow part of the fairway. From there, they will be able to easily reach the green in two.
"Those missing out to the left will probably have to lay up to a very challenging lay-up shot where they have to contend with the marsh and the bunkers. We have angled the green in a way so they will still have to pitch it over the front bunker into the green.
"The left tee plays a little bit longer and it is probably a three-shot hole for most. It’s going to favor a draw off the tee and again, players will most likely have to force that challenging lay-up spot to the right and then pitch over the bunker into the green."
