Serpent
Serpent
Par 5 | 603 Yards
This par 5 snakes its way from tee to green, with penalty areas squeezing both sides the entire length of the hole. Getting home in two is in play but likely requires a gutsy blind shot into the green.
With water protecting the front, the safer alternative is to play Serpent in three.
Hole Strategy
Hole Designer: Pizá Golf
AgustÃn Pizá talks us through his thought process on the design of Serpent and discusses how the teams may approach it:
AgustÃn says: "The Serpent is around 600 yards, depending on where the tee box markers are on match night. The hole not only moves from left to right on the horizontal plane - hence Serpent - but also low and high on the vertical plane.
"If you hit the conservative route on a high-to-mid trajectory fade to the left-hand side and if you really hit that, you’ll find the speed slope that takes you to the beginning of Position A. From there, you’ll have access to two high plateaus on the left on the second shot, which sets up a third shot into the green for a potential birdie opportunity.
"If you want the take the aggressive route, you take the shot straight to Position A, which is on the second plateau of the Serpent. From there, you will find yourself with another easy slope that will take you in toward the green. But the further it takes you in, it will be a blind shot onto the green."
