The Bay Golf Club vs. Jupiter Links Golf Club: Ways to Watch
TGL presented by SoFi returns Monday with four teams, three matches and some of the biggest names in golf under one roof at SoFi Center.
It’s all part of a Presidents Day tripleheader kicking off at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Atlanta Drive GC and Los Angeles Golf Club are first on the tee in the opening match, with both unbeaten squads looking to prove themselves as the team to beat.
Atlanta then takes on fellow unbeaten The Bay Golf Club at 4 p.m., while the third and final match of the night sees The Bay take on Boston Common Golf at 7 p.m. The first two matches will air on ESPN, with the action switching to ESPN2 for The Bay vs. Boston in the final match of the day.
Here’s a look at the course layouts for each match at SoFi Center.
HOLE DESIGNS: Check out the library of hole designs for TGL presented by SoFi
Match 1: Atlanta Drive GC vs. LAGC
These teams haven’t had much trouble navigating the various holes so far, with LAGC atop the SoFi Cup Standings at 2-0 and Atlanta coming off a 4-0 win over New York on opening night. Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay and Billy Horschel are set to go for Atlanta with Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood and Sahith Theegala looking to make it three straight wins for Los Angeles.
The match starts at a medium-length par-4, Straight Up, with Rose teeing off first for Los Angeles and Horschel holding the honors for Atlanta. Cantlay and Fleetwood will be first at No. 2, The Spear, a fan-favorite par-5 with a bold design that dramatically rewards long and straight drives.
Thomas and Theegala will hit first at No. 3, Set in Stone, a short par-3 that’s been played in every match thus far, with the players then alternating first tee shots for the duration of Triples.
Monday also marks the debut of a new hole, Sterling. The 554-yard par-5 is shaped like a sword that splits into two equally-sized fairways and poses several intriguing challenges from tee-to-green.
The Singles session is bookended by a pair of par 5s – No. 10, Serpent, and No. 15, Quick Draw. While Quick Draw stretches out to more than 700 yards, Serpent has given teams fits so far with just 1 of 6 players hitting the green in regulation.
Atlanta Drive GC vs. The Bay Golf Club
Atlanta will make one roster adjustment for its second match of the day, with Lucas Glover swapping in for Billy Horschel. The Bay counters with Wyndham Clark, Ludvig Åberg and Min Woo Lee in what will be the team’s second match at SoFi Center.
Clark, Åberg and Shane Lowry led The Bay to an opening-night victory over New York, while Lee is set for his debut.
Several of these holes will look familiar to both teams – On the Rocks, Oh Chute, Bluebonnet, Set in Stone and Cliffhanger have all been included in the course layout for each prior match.
Sterling will also be in use for this match, slated as the 10th hole to begin Singles play with Cantlay taking on Clark at the unique-looking par-5 where dead straight is actually bad – there's a thin bunker lining the middle of the hole that creates a split fairway.
No. 6, Straight Up, and No. 11, The Plank, should have everyone’s attention – players have only hit those greens in regulation 33% of the time so far this season.
The Par 3s are practically begging both teams to go flag hunting in match No. 2, with all four short holes playing under 190 yards. No. 14, Cliffhanger, is the longest at 189 yards and the pressure will be on Glover and Åberg in Singles if the match comes down to the wire.
The Bay Golf Club vs. Boston Common Golf
How’s this for a nightcap? Lowry will swap in for Lee in the Bay’s second match of the day, while Rory McIlroy returns for Boston alongside Keegan Bradley and Hideki Matsuyama. This is the TGL debut for Matsuyama, who replaces Adam Scott in the lineup and looks to help the Ballfrogs to their first victory.
This match will feature the same course layout as Atlanta vs. Los Angeles, so it’ll be a new routing for both The Bay and Boston in the final match of the night.
The Bay struggled off the tee in its first match and still scored a decisive win thanks to its prowess in and around the green. But big mistakes with the driver will prove costly right out of the gate, with Straight Up and The Spear among the more penal holes in the rotation.
No. 9, Bonnie Link, has played as the easiest hole in the rotation, giving players a bit of a breather before a tough Singles stretch. The par-3 12th, Craic On, has played tougher than the yardage indicates and Lowry and Bradley have their work cut out for them at No. 13, The Plank, where players have hit the green in regulation just 33.3% of the time so far.
McIlroy and Åberg especially stood out on several of these holes in prior matches, with McIlroy holding TGL’s Closest to the Pin record at the par-3 Fallen Pine and the par-3 Craic On. Åberg, meanwhile, has made the longest putts of the season at Craic On and the par-4 14th, The Plank.
