The average size of greens on the PGA TOUR is approximately 5,701 square feet. How does that compare to the size of the green inside SoFi Center?

TGL’s green was renovated ahead of Season 2, increasing its size by 38% from its original footprint of 3,818 sq ft to its new footprint of 5,270 sq ft. Its new size makes it much closer to the size of the average PGA TOUR green (5,701 sq ft).

The renovation of the GreenZone also increased the number of hole locations on the SoFi Center putting surface from seven in Season 1 up to 12 for Season 2.

And the two Full Swing Virtual Greens under the turf are now 1,250 square feet in total with 608 actuators to morph the putting surface (up from 1,215 square feet, 567 actuators in Season 1).

Bigger Green for Season 2

The tech-infused green inside SoFi Center adds a completely unique element in its ability to change from hole-to-hole based on the rotation of the turntable, the undulation of the Virtual Greens, and the hole location selected.

Yet the physical size of the green inside SoFi Center doesn’t change from hole-to-hole, giving us the ability to compare it to some of the most famous greens in golf in terms of its size.

Green to Green Size Comparison

Every year in March, the likes of Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele take aim at No. 17 at THE PLAYERS Championship, the famous island green. It looks like a tough target and it is.

For comparison purposes, the island green at No. 17 (3,912 square feet) measures significantly smaller than the TGL green inside SoFi Center (5,270 sq ft).

Golf is all about variety and the TGL green also swallows up one of the other most famous short par-3 greens in golf - Royal Troon’s “Postage Stamp” 16th, measuring just 2,635 square feet.

The TGL green is bigger in size compared to the drivable par-4 10th green at Riviera Country Club (3,500 square feet) and the par-3 seventh at Pebble Beach (3,512 square feet) - each putting surface would fit on the green at SoFi Center with room to spare. The TGL green would dwarf several others around Pebble Beach, which features the smallest greens on Tour with an average size of approximately 3,500 square feet.

Some of the bigger putting surfaces on TOUR are larger than the TGL green, including No. 16 at TPC San Antonio. The average green size is around 6,400 square feet at that venue and No. 16 is even bigger at approximately 7,600 square feet – including a large bunker in the middle.

That’s nothing compared to one of the most iconic closing holes in the world – No. 18 at the Old Course at St. Andrews, which measures a whopping 15,570 square feet. The sweeping putting surface could fit almost three of the TGL greens inside its giant footprint.

The TGL green saw plenty of highlight-reel putts and chip-ins throughout Season 1, as Atlanta Drive ultimately took home the SoFi Cup after beating New York Golf Club in the Finals Series.
