In a season full of firsts, Kyle Porter recaps the action.

There were a number of great moments in the first season of TGL presented by SoFi.

The overall theme (which we’ll get to in a bit) was how competitive it was and how much fun everybody had. Almost every week, a different player was touting how passionate they were about not just the league, but the individual matches and the atmosphere inside SoFi Center.

From Kevin Kisner blading a ball into the pin to Billy Horschel’s final, outrageous putt to help win the SoFi Cup for Atlanta Drive GC, every week provided another moment.

Here are some of my standout memories from a season full of fun.

My MVP pick: Wyndham Clark

Clark thrived in TGL.

“I wish I had this much fun on the golf course,” said Clark after a long Presidents Day tripleheader. “Lately, I've not been having very much fun on the course. And so when I come in here, I don't know what it is. I think it's a little bit of the team aspect, the atmosphere. … I don't know, I typically play well when I'm having fun and I'm loose, and I think that happens a lot in TGL.”

The numbers were undeniable. Clark led the league in holes won, points won, strokes gained off the tee, strokes gained ball striking and strokes gained total. He was a big miss for The Bay in its Semifinal defeat to Atlanta Drive.

My Playoff MVP pick: Billy Horschel

The playoffs were a different story. Horschel not only won the SoFi Cup with a crazy birdie putt for Atlanta Drive but he carried them throughout the Finals with an astounding five points across four holes in two matches against New York Golf Club.

Favorite entrance: Tiger Woods

His initial walk to JLGC’s match against Los Angeles Golf Club was quite memorable.

There will always only be one first time, and with the smoke pumping and Woods grinning and the golf world looking on, it was a cool moment to honor someone who, to be honest, has had a career that has made all of this – TGL, covering TGL, all of it – possible.

Second favorite entrance: Billy's dirty bird

Billy’s dirty bird was a harbinger of things to come from someone who, at times, seemed like he completely took over SoFi Center.

Speed demon: Min Woo Lee

Here are some numbers that may surprise you … Min Woo Lee led the league in both average driver ball speed (190.3 MPH) and average driving distance (332.0 yards). He was three MPH faster than Rory McIlroy and 4 yards longer than his teammate, Clark.

Lee is one of the longer, faster players on the PGA TOUR, and he lives for the moment. I expected him to have some adrenaline pumping in SoFi Center, and he clearly did.

Favorite nickname: Min Woo Lee

Speaking of Min Woo! Him calling himself (calling himself!) Dr. Chipinski and then chipping in twice was incredible.

Favorite blooper: Kevin Kisner’s bladed ball

It almost took teammate Tiger Woods to his knees in laughter. Nobody could believe it.

“We honestly didn't think that anyone could possibly get hit in here,” said Woods after the match. “But that was one of the funniest moments I've ever seen, Kiz hitting that shot like that. We were just dying.”

Funniest shot: Tiger gets the wrong distance

It’s unusual to see a pro come up [checks notes] 80 yards short of a green, even more so when that pro has won 15 major championships. That’s what happened, though, on February 18 when Woods and Jupiter Links Golf Club faced off against NYGC.

Woods thought the distance was 99 yards when it was actually 199 yards. The ensuing shot and fallout were incredible.

“That was one of the most embarrassing things to ever happen,” said Woods. “I can't believe that just happened.”

Most memorable moment: Billy Horschel’s winning putt

We can (and should) joke about how Horschel called me out for picking against him in Singles so often (he was right). We can (and should) enjoy how intense Horschel was throughout the entire season.

But that putt? That double-breaking 18-footer for the inaugural championship and SoFi Cup?

That was a real moment.

Favorite match: NYGC vs. Atlanta Drive

The first match of the Finals was the best match of the year. Not to go full Bill Hader playing Stefon on SNL, but that match had it all. Great Hammer strategy, intensity on both sides, tremendous shotmaking and an ending – Atlanta Drive put up two points over the last two holes – worthy of the Finals.

The two teams were a combined 5 under in Singles (not including concessions), and there was only one bogey across all 15 holes.

Sub of the season: Tony Finau

I’m not sure we talked enough about how Tony Finau filled in for LAGC and then almost single-handedly won their match against NYGC by nailing two monstrous putts. Incredible.
