Betting and stats expert Justin Ray is Head of Content for Twenty First Group. Here are his five key insights ahead of Boston Common Golf vs. The Bay Golf Club on Monday night at SoFi Center...
The SoFi Cup Standings are developing quickly in TGL’s Season 2.
The lone winless team from 2025, Boston Common Golf, can take an enormous stride towards a postseason berth in 2026 on Monday evening with a 2-0-0 start.
HOW TO WATCH: Boston Common Golf vs. The Bay Golf Club
Meanwhile, The Bay Golf Club would have a foggy outlook on a second playoff appearance should they drop a second consecutive match to start its season.
Here are the numbers to know before Boston (1-0-0) squares off with The Bay (0-1-0) Monday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
THOR’S HAMMER
After a sparkling TGL debut for Boston Common Golf in its season opener against Los Angeles Golf Club, Michael Thorbjornsen will tee it up again Monday against The Bay.
Thorbjornsen was the Player of the Match against LAGC, leading all players in strokes gained total (+4.42), strokes gained putting (+2.90) and win probability added. Thorbjornsen’s 54 feet of putts made that night are the most by any single player in a match this season, and the third-most for any single player all-time in SoFi Center.
Thorbjornsen swept his two Singles holes against Sahith Theegala. He is only the second player since the inception of TGL to win both of his Singles matches in his first career match – Collin Morikawa did it for LAGC last season against Kevin Kisner of Jupiter Links.
Can Thorbjornsen repeat his SoFi Center magic? The former PGA TOUR U No. 1 has the pedigree to do it: Last season on the PGA TOUR, he became the first player in ten years to win the season statistical race in both greens in regulation and total driving.

UNCOMMONLY GOOD
Thorbjornsen spearheaded an incredible turnaround on the greens for Boston Common Golf in its first match of 2026.
It’s difficult to overstate just how significant the improvement was – in the entire 2025 TGL season, Boston made just six putts of ten feet or longer as a team. They equaled that total in their season opener alone.
Boston made just 50.0% of its putts from five to ten feet in 2025. In its victory over LAGC, it was 4-for-5 from that range (80%).

PICK YER PERSPECTIVE
One of the most interesting tee shot decisions to date in TGL has come on Pick Yer Plunder, a 570-yard par five with three pronounced options off the tee. The triple-fairway, risk-versus-reward setup has yielded a relatively even number of choices made in competition. Through 11 TGL matches where the hole has been in play (so 22 tee shots hit), seven have opted to aim for the left fairway, six to the center and nine to the right.
The drives aimed left have yielded a winning hole record of 2-1-4. For the more narrow, centered target, it’s a dead heat at 2-2-2, and drives aimed for the right fairway have produced a record of 3-4-2.
Pick Yer Plunder is the tenth hole of Monday’s match, a Singles hole where good friends and Ryder Cup teammates Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry will square off. Consider this particular hole a bit lopsided on paper: McIlroy made birdie or better on 54.1% of par fives last season on the PGA TOUR, the 12th-highest rate of any player. Lowry (39.3%) ranked 178th of 180 qualified players in that statistic.
CHEF’S KISS
The electric Min Woo Lee will make his TGL Season 2 debut on Monday after sitting out the team’s season-opening defeat to Atlanta Drive GC. Lee was arguably the best power player in Season 1, leading all of TGL in driver ball speed, driver swing speed, distance off the tee and percentage of drives to go 320 yards or longer.
And that might not even have been his most memorable trait – he also led all players in strokes gained around-the-green, rightfully earning the moniker of ‘Dr. Chipinski.’
In the loss to Atlanta, The Bay got walloped statistically in those two facets of the game. The defending champs gained two full strokes more than The Bay off the tee and 1.2 more strokes around the green.
Can Min Woo help The Bay boys right the ship on Monday night?
SEASON 2 DEVELOPMENTS
The introduction of team-specific holes has infused a touch of local flair to the SoFi Center proceedings in Season 2 – but it has also produced one of its more remarkable trends to date.
Home teams are yet to lose even once on their Team Holes this season, going 7-0-3. Storrowed (Boston Common Golf, Hole 4) and Bay Breaker (The Bay Golf Club, Hole 9) will be in play Monday.
And while we’ve mentioned the success Thorbjornsen enjoyed in his Boston debut, he’s not the only alternate to shine on the TGL stage. Four different players have competed in a total of six matches as alternates this season. Combined, those men have a winning record in triples (16-14-24) and singles (5-4-3). Boston Common Golf hopes its young star can add to those totals against The Bay on Monday.
Justin Ray's prediction: Boston Common Golf to win (-138 at FanDuel Sportsbook, odds accurate at time of publication)
