Two playoff teams from last year are looking to move out of the bottom of the SoFi Cup Standings, with New York Golf Club and The Bay Golf Club squaring off Tuesday night to begin the second of back-to-back doubleheaders on the week at SoFi Center.
The Bay picked up a big win over Los Angeles earlier this month and has a chance to get back in the playoff hunt at 1-2-0, but they're still in must-win mode ahead of the 5 p.m. ET match with New York.
NYGC has time at 1-1-0 on the season and will be looking to prove the squad that made it all the way to the Finals in Season 1 is still a top contender with a second-half charge.

New York is sticking around for the second match of the night and takes on currently-unbeaten Boston Common Golf at 9 p.m. ET.
There will be a host of implications here depending on how the first three matches of the week shake out, but one thing is clear - this will be a season-defining week for Atlanta, New York and Boston, all of whom play two matches in a two-day stretch that could sink their chances or propel them towards the top of the SoFi Cup Standings.

TRIPLE TROUBLE
There are multiple reasons New York and The Bay currently find themselves outside the playoff bubble after finishing in the top four last season – most notably, they’ve had trouble getting out of the gate. The Bay ranks T-4 in Triples points while New York is sixth.
Grabbing the early lead is huge in match play, and there’s no time to waste with just five regular-season matches for each team. Stepping on the gas early should be the thought process for both teams, especially The Bay, which can’t afford a third loss at this point in the season.
SINGLES MATCHUPS
Xander Schauffele vs. Ludvig Åberg: Two of the top dogs get things started at Bonnie Link. There’s a lot of trouble throughout this short par 5 and both guys can get a little loose with the driver at times. Best keep it in the short stuff here. They can, however, swing for the fences at Alpine, a par 4 with tons of rollout in the fairway. Åberg sent one 360 yards at Alpine in Season 1, one of the longest drives of the year.
Matt Fitzpatrick vs. Wyndham Clark: Two completely contrasting playing styles collide at No. 11, Cut the Sails, where Clark has a chance to drive the green. Fitzpatrick’s analytical approach should serve him well at No. 14, The Last Toll, a long par 3 with several options off the tee.
Rickie Fowler vs. Shane Lowry: Both players are strong on par 3s and should be evenly-matched at No. 12, the 157-yard Set in Stone. Fowler is still one of the longer hitters out there and could have a small advantage at the final hole, the par 5 Set In Stone.

BACK FOR BOSTON
The Ballfrogs will see two familiar faces in the lineup for the first time this season, with Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama set for their Season 2 debuts. There is some added pressure with Boston off to a 2-0-0 start and poised to take over first place with a strong showing this week, though Scott and Matsuyama have seen it all with nearly 40 years combined professional experience.
SINGLES MATCHUPS
Adam Scott vs. Cameron Young: Scott isn’t exactly easing his way back into Singles, matched up against Young at the par 5 The Spear. But he’s still right there with Young in terms of driving distance at age 45. That won’t be much of a factor on the next hole, Stinger, which is all about trajectory rather than length off the tee.
Hideki Matsuyama vs. Xander Schauffele: Matsuyama will be looking for his first career TGL Singles point at Straight Up, a par 4 where accuracy is a must into a water-lined green. Then it’s on to the par 3 Cliffhanger, playing 151 yards. These two last faced off at the 2024 Presidents Cup, with Matsuyama scoring a historic 7&6 victory over Schauffele in foursomes.
Keegan Bradley vs. Rickie Fowler: The anchor pairing kicks off with a one-shotter at Set In Stone, playing 169 yards, Fowler may be the slightly better irons player, but Bradley is a wizard around the greens. The match concludes at Caverns, a brand new par 5 set entirely in a cave with all sorts of wicked obstacles and options to test the U.S. veterans.
THE COURSE
Tuesday’s opening match marks the second appearance of Lavender Lane (Gil Hanse), a new par 4, while Caverns (Beau Welling Design) gets its second play-through in the final match of the night.

HOLE SPOTLIGHT
Lavender Lane, Par 4, 452 Yards
A Gil Hanse design, Lavender Lane is a scenic, winding hole set amid a serene British background. However, the execution required here is anything but relaxing.
This is a double-dogleg utilizing the classic Hanse risk-reward propositions. Players can draw something into the fairway or try to bomb it over the left-side bunkers, leaving a straightforward approach and great birdie chance. But a slightly errant tee shot will make it challenging to come away with a par.
