A record-breaking performance at Torrey Pines with a new tournament scoring record!
Rose Goes Wire-to-Wire
Rose won the Farmers Insurance Open with a score of -23, breaking a long-standing tournament record of -22. His margin of victory was a near record-breaking 7 strokes.
Rose came to Torrey Pines looking to avenge last week’s missed cut at The American Express. He did just that— in a big way, too.
He took the lead on day one and never gave it back. From start to finish, Rose played some of the cleanest golf this course has ever seen. While the average golf fan may have appreciated a bit more drama, he just played too well for us to wonder what might happen on Sunday.
Rose earned his 13th PGA TOUR title, his second win here at Torrey Pines, and the first wire-to-wire victory at this event since Tommy Bolt did it in 1955.
Like it’s 2018
In 2018, Rose was the best player in the world. He reached world No. 1 and won the FedExCup that same year. In 2019, he kept winning, including right here at Torrey Pines.
Last year felt like a reintroduction to the Rose we’d come to know in the late 2010s. He established himself as a constant threat when he’s in the field, and that trend looks to be continuing into the 2026 season.
Rose was the runner-up at the 2025 Masters, almost playing spoiler to Rory’s Grand Slam. He won the FedEx St. Jude Championship in August last year, beating J.J. Spaun in a three-hole playoff to claim his 12th TOUR win. That victory put him back inside the top 10 in the world and secured his spot in the TOUR Championship for the first time since 2019.
This week was no surprise to anyone who has been paying attention.
Age No Issue
“For his age” has been a common add-on when speaking about Rose’s success on TOUR — but there’s no need. Rose isn’t playing well “for his age.” He’s playing like the Top 10 player in the world that he is.
Yes, he’s the oldest to win the Farmers Insurance Open. Yes, he joins a very short list of PGA TOUR players who have won multiple times after turning 45.
Yes, there is no one else in their 40s playing to his level. Adam Scott has had a history of great success, and Alex Noren is a top 20 player, but Rose is winning PGA TOUR events NOW age 45.
Rose’s caddy, Mark Fulcher (“Fooch”) told CBS broadcaster Trevor Immelman, “In all the years I’ve been caddying for Justin, I think he’s a better player now than he ever has been in his career.” That’s saying a lot given Rose’s long career of success.
Amanda Balionis asked Rose if his best golf is still ahead of him, and Rose finished his answer with, “Why not?”
Justin Rose is an elite golfer, age irrelevant.
Another One to Watch
Sahith Theegala also had a strong week, finishing in the top 10 for the first time since December of 2024. He’s made incredible strides to get back here. Last year, a neck injury threw his season off course. He withdrew from multiple events, missed two majors, and finished 147th in the FedExCup.
This year he’s healthy, and he’s playing great. In three events, he’s finished T-31, T-8, and now T-7. Look for Sahith to continue this great play into the rest of the season.
What Comes Next?
Rose climbs to #3 in the FedExCup standings, tied with Scottie Scheffler.
Theegala climbs to #12 in the FedExCup standings.
We’re proud of the way these guys have represented LAGC out on TOUR.
Collin Morikawa and Theegala head to Scottsdale for the WM Phoenix Open, while Rose takes some much-deserved time off, and we wait for Tommy Fleetwood’s 2026 debut with plenty of anticipation.
